Thomas J. “Tom” Mappes, 70, passed away all too soon on Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2019 at his home in Brown County.

He was born Feb. 9, 1949 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late Thomas E. and Betty E. (Schmoll) Mappes. Tom was a 1968 graduate of J. F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Indianapolis where he participated in several sports. He retired in 2010 after more than 50 years as a plumber.

He was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 440 in Indianapolis, Quail & Ducks Unlimited of Indiana and a former member of the International Pro Rodeo Association. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid sports fan, but especially loved watching Notre Dame football and Indiana University men’s basketball.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly J. (Arnold) Mappes, whom he married on June 30, 2007. He is also survived by his children, Kimberlee (Richard) Cologgi of Phoenix, AZ, Tom (Wenona) Mappes of Martinsville; stepson, Zachary (Chrissy) Shores of Brown County; siblings, Steve (John) Mappes, Elaine (Rick) Shaw, Kathleen (Mike) Rozens and Jennifer (Ryan) Thacker, all of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Kristina (Felix) Romero, Robert Cologgi, Cassandra (Aaron) Krog, Cody (Laurin Short) Mappes, Courtney (Chris) Wilson, Claycee (Jacob Ham) Mappes and Colleen Mappes; great-grandchildren, Alex, Nathan, Eli, Brady, Ashton, Ryder, Caysen and Ethan.

Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Mappes; and a grandson, Joseph “Joey” Cologgi.

The Rev. Jim Ackerman will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery in Brown County.
