Alva L. Smith, 83, of Brown County, passed from this life at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Brown County Health & Living.
Alva was born July 6, 1935, in Brown County, the son of Reasy D. and Gledith West Smith.
Mr. Smith retired from Cummins Engine Company after 28 years of service.
He was a member of North Salem United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He married Lois Ann Roberts July 4, 1958.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years; sons, Jeff (Michele) Smith of Columbus, Brian (Cathy) Smith of Indianapolis, Douglas (Kathy) Smith of Columbus, Michael (Donna) Smith and Mark (Linda) Smith, both of Brown County; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard Smith and Ivan (Diane) Smith, both of Columbus, Jerry (Risa) Smith of Houston; and his sisters, Elma (Ron) Trendelman of Columbus, Lois (Don) Suiter of Shelbyville and Clara Rose of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Danita Kay Smith.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 4205 Jonathan Moore Pike in Columbus, with the Rev. Dan Bawinkel officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 23 and 9:30 a.m. to time of service.
Burial will be in Brown County Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
