Letter: Appreciative of help at annual rabies clinic

To the editor:

The 8th annual SPOT Rabies Clinic was a huge success. This service was provided to help local pet owners remain in compliance with state law regarding rabies vaccinations, and to provide pets with their needed annual vaccinations. This annual event continues to make a positive impact on the lives of our Brown County pets and their owners.

Brown County pet owners brought their dogs and cats to our clinic on Sunday, April 28. The team vaccinated more than 400 pets, and microchipped 65 pets. Nail trimming for dogs was provided by Diane Brubaker with the help of our local Animal Control officers Amanda Sisson and Bethany Heldman.

I would like to thank our county commissioners for allowing us to use the EMS building, which is a wonderful facility for this event. Susan Armstrong, Brown County Emergency Management director, was instrumental in helping us organize the activity. The sheriff’s department allowed us to park in their lot, along with the Brown County Inn that opened up parking for our volunteers. And, the event would not have been possible without the many fantastic Brown County Humane Society volunteers who gave up their Sunday to help make this event the success that it was.

In addition, I would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Chad Hennessy of the Franklin Animal Clinic; Dr. Tyson Medlock of the Bloomington Vet Hospital; and Dr. William Finney, Anna Gartner and the wonderful staff of the Bean Blossom Animal Clinic for providing their time and much needed resources to make this day a reality for our pets in Brown County.

Each year the SPOT Rabies Clinic provides this community service so that our pets have the preventative vaccines they need and to keep them in compliance with state law.

Sue Ann Werling, president, Brown County Humane Society
