Mary McCann

Mary Louise (Cummins) McCann, 83, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, surrounded by loved ones at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville, Indiana.

Mary Lou was born on Oct. 21, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Laurence G. and Evelyn L. Cummins. She married John F. “Jack” McCann Jr. May 25, 1963. He proceeded her in death on Dec. 29, 2018.

Mary Lou grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Joan of Arc grade schools, graduated from St. Agnes Academy, and attended Marion College. She taught school at St. Mark’s and Immaculate Heart, worked at Grain Dealers as a secretary to the V.P., worked as secretary at Reilly Tar & Chemical, also Penney’s and L.S. Ayres in the secretary pool. Mary Lou also worked for Jack at his law office and she worked for Top It Off and Sparkle Plenty in Nashville, Indiana.

She met the love of her life John F. “Jack” McCann, in the elevator of L.S. Ayres, and from then on, they were inseparable. Mary Lou enjoyed being a mother to her children and grandchildren. She was a volunteer with Girl Scouts of America, volunteered at St. Agnes Catholic Church, she was quite active in Democratic politics running for trustee in 2014, volunteered with Mother’s Cupboard, and walked dogs at the Brown Co. Humane Society. She also enjoyed the 4-H Fair, bowling, quilting, sewing, reading, history and gardening.
Mary Lou was the oldest of seven children. She was proceeded in death by her parents; and sisters, Johanna Cummins, Eleanor Catherine Cummins and Patricia Antoinette (Tommy) Hutsell. Her three brothers survive her, Laurence G. (DeAnna) Cummins lll of Texas, Michael F. (Irene) Cummins of Missouri and Thomas C. Cummins of Terre Haute.

Mary Lou is survived by her three children, Mary Catherine (Barry) Bose of Morgantown, John Patrick (Lanie) McCann of Greenwood and Ann Marie (Todd Baker) of Nashville; grandsons, Kevin R. Hall, Jacob D. Hall, Steven P. McCann and Sean P. McCann; great-grandchildren, Isaac Nash, Naomi June Hall and Lilliana Grace McCann; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Life will be May 29, 2019, at St. Agnes Church in Nashville, with a gathering from 10 until 11 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. for Mary Lou McCann.
