Van Buren recognized for three-year art project

The Indiana Arts Commission and Van Buren Elementary School have completed an art education project at the school. The school and art teacher Amanda Mathis have been a part of the IAC’s Partnering Arts Communities and Education (PACE) grant program, which will conclude this school year.

The project introduced arts-based programming into the classroom, as well as brought in local artists as guest instructors.

“When people think of Nashville, Indiana, they immediately think of the art culture,” Principal Gavin Steele said. “PACE has allowed us to enrich the students’ educational experience by exposure to local art. PACE has served as the thread between our art culture and our academic standards.”

An after-school reception took place May 23, featuring a “gallery walk” of students’ art in the school’s gymnasium.

For more information about PACE, visit in.gov/arts/PACE.htm or contact Stephanie Haines at [email protected] or call 317-232-1274.
