State park weekend activities moved to visitor center

The Brown County State Park and Abe Martin Lodge will remain closed through at least this Sunday, but visitors will still get a chance to participate in park activities in this weekend.

Several free programs scheduled for this weekend will be relocated to the Brown County Visitor Center, 211 S. Van Buren Street, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Programs include Indiana reptiles on display on Friday and Saturday; an Arts in the Parks sketching program; and a live raptor program on Saturday.

A full schedule of activities can be found here.

Sediment levels from last weekend’s rain are still too high in Ogle Lake to allow for the production of “potable water,” the release states.

Cancellation notices have been issued to guests who are had reservations at the campgrounds and the Lodge through Sunday evening.

DNR is working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to ensure the water is safe to drink when the park reopens.

Closure beyond the weekend will be evaluated as staff monitors lake conditions and any further rainfall.
