Alberta Schrock

Alberta Sawyer Schrock, 88, of Nashville, died Thursday, July 4, 2019, in I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born Dec. 9, 1930, in Indianapolis to Evin Sawyer and Mary Stella Reed Sawyer. She was retired after 38 years with the Nashville IGA.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Denise) Schrock of Greenwood and Gary (Carol) Schrock of Bagdad, Florida; two daughters, Cathy (Mike Sickels) Schrock of Nashville and Brenda (Roger Kelso) Young of Nashville; siblings, Thelma Ditchley, Norman (Brenda) Shaw, Christine (John) McCurdy and Don Sawyer; 11 grandchildren, Jenifer, Patrick, Brandon, Crystal, Brittany, Joseph, Uriah, Abby, Autumn, Heather and Heath; 15 great grandchildren; an aunt, Pearl Gregory; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Schrock; three sisters, JoAnn Leggins, Jean Watson and June Harden; and two brothers, Shelby Sawyer and Herman Shaw Jr.

Memberships include the Nashville United Methodist Church, Friends of Brown County State Park, Brown County Extension Homemakers, Nashville Town Council (former president) and was a 4-H leader for over 30 years. Alberta was a very giving and generous person. As a 4-H leader she taught many people how to sew. She did some sewing for her church, made quilts for the homeless and refurbished toys for the needy at Christmas time. She sewed clothing for her children and grandchildren. Her giving even extended into her death, where she donated the gift of life, especially to help burn victims. Many enjoyed her culinary expertise.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 4 p.m. in Nashville United Methodist Church, 36 S. Jefferson St, Nashville, with Pastor Mary Wilder Cartwright officiating, Burial will follow in Brown County Memorial Park. There will be a time of visitation prior to services on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the church.
