Students ages 3 through 13 may participate in Brown County Parks and Rec Youth Soccer beginning in August at Deer Run Park, 1001 Deer Run Lane.
The deadline to register is Friday, July 19. Practices will begin in early August. Games will be on weeknights and Sunday afternoons.
The player fee for children ages 3 to 8 years old is $55. It’s $60 for children ages 9 through 13. Participants are encouraged to register by Friday, July 12 for an early-bird discount of $10.

Meet Milan team; Kirlin golf outing
Salt Creek Golf Retreat will host two events on Saturday, July 13: The 65th reunion of the 1954 Milan Indians basketball team and the Chuck & Will Kirlin Golf Outing.
The 1954 Milan Indians — Bobby Plump, Gene White, Ray Craft, Rollin Cutter and Roger Schroder — will gather at the golf retreat, 2359 State Road 46, Saturday, July 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Guests can share basketball memories from one of the greatest times in Indiana basketball. Tickets are $25 per person, with profits going to the Milan Museum. Only 100 tickets will be sold.
The reunion will be followed by the fourth annual Chuck & Will Kirlin Golf Outing, with all profits going to Chuck’s Endowment with the Brown County Community Foundation. The outing costs $300 for a foursome. Tee time is at noon. Prizes will come from the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana Pacers.
The Milan meet and greet will be free for those participating in the golf outing.
Those who do not participate in the outing can watch the Milan vs. Terre Haute Gerstmeyer game — the afternoon game in 1954 — and the final game between Milan and Muncie Central, the game from the film “Hoosiers.”

Golf camp to be offered at Salt Creek
Salt Creek Golf Retreat will host a golf camp Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18. Students entering Grades 4 through 9 are welcome to attend.
Instruction will be given by Salt Creek pro Ben VanNess and Brown County High School golf coach Brad Baughman.
Camp runs from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday.
The cost is $35 per camper, cash or checks made payable to Brown County High School Athletics.
Registration begins Monday, July 15 at 8 a.m. Clubs will be provided to those who need them. Campers should wear comfortable clothing, golf or tennis shoes, hat (optional) and bring sunscreen. Water or Gatorade will be provided daily.

Yoga class offered at Hard Truth Hills
DNK Presents will offer a yoga session at Hard Truth Hills, 418 Old State Road 46, Saturday, July 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. Bring your own mat and experience yoga overlooking the pond or the forest.

Saucony Trail Party at Hard Truth Hills
Hard Truth Hills will host a first-ever trail shoe demo for Saucony Saturday, July 20 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Participants will be able to try four trail shoe options — a way to test shoes without needing to buy them first. Food, beer, games, giveaways and prizes will be offered after the demo.
Wellness retreat set at Story Inn in August
STORY — Erica Weddle of Simply Fitness will offer a retreat at Story Inn, 6404 State Road 135 South, Friday, Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 4. Guests can enjoy a weekend of yoga, dining, hiking, wine tasting and relaxation.

Habitat for Humanity coed softball tournament
COLUMBUS — Brown County Habitat for Humanity will host a softball tournament at Dunn Stadium, 878 Spears St., Thursday, Aug. 4 to raise money and awareness for the organization.
“Roll the Home Run Dice” challenge is $10, or it is $150 per team playing in the tournament.
Individuals and/or merchants are able to donate money to sponsor or form a team.
Habitat for Humanity is a 501c3 charity, with all donations being tax-deductible and Habitat providing the required paperwork.

Child care available weekdays at YMCA
The Brown County YMCA offers child care for two hours at a time while parents are in the building.
The service is free to Y members and for $2 per child for non-members. Children ages 6 months to 8 years old are welcome. Child watch hours are from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Kyokushin karate training offered
Sensei David Michaelis is offering training in traditional kyokushin karate.
Classes are for students 16 and older twice a week, at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 4 p.m. Sundays.
Michaelis has trained and taught kyokushin karate for more than 35 years. Kyokushin, Japanese for “the society of the ultimate truth,” is a style of stand-up, full-contact karate. It is intended to foster humility, perseverance and nonviolence and to provide a foundation for improving physical and mental discipline.
