HAMBLEN TWP. — A 64-year-old Brown County man received a minor injury after crashing his vehicle on Upper Salt Creek Road on Aug. 23.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholson Briles responded to the crash around 7 a.m. near Gaither Hill Lane. He reported seeing a pickup truck in a creek on the west side of the road with no one around it.

A neighbor near the crash scene told Briles that the driver — later identified as Dennis Biggerstaff — came up to his home the night before to tell him he had crashed his truck and that he was going to walk home before calling the sheriff’s department the next morning. The accident actually happened around midnight Friday, Briles’ report said.

As Briles was taking photos of the truck, Biggerstaff’s son showed up and said he would bring his dad back to the scene. Biggerstaff told police that he was driving south when three deer ran out into the road. Due to fog, Biggerstaff had to brake quickly, and the two right tires went off the road, causing him to lose control and go off the west side and into a tree. He tried to pull back out on to the road, but the truck rolled back into the creek, according to the report.

Biggerstaff had minor bleeding on his elbow/lower arm, but he refused further treatment at the scene.

His vehicle was towed. The report states that he was wearing a seat belt.
