HEADS UP: Another big weekend planned in Brown County

Heads up, Brown Countians. Another full slate of events is happening this weekend that’s likely to make foot and/or vehicle traffic slower than what you’re used to along the major routes into and out of Nashville.

Thursday, Sept. 19

Starting at 11 a.m.: 45th annual Hall of Fame and Uncle Pen Days Festival at the Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park and Campground, off State Road 135 North in Bean Blossom. It actually begins Wednesday, Sept. 18 and will run through Sunday. More than 30 bands will perform, plus there will be workshops, jam sessions, camping, food, and the induction of songwriting duo Miss Dixie and Tom T. Hall into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

7:30 p.m.: “The American Variety Show” opens at the Brown County Playhouse, paying tribute to “The Carol Burnett Show,” Donny and Marie Osmond, “Hee Haw” and other shows.

7:30 p.m.: Concert by country star Tanya Tucker at the new Brown County Music Center, off State Road 46 West near the McDonald’s light.

Friday, Sept. 20

Starting at 11 a.m.: Uncle Pen Days Festival continues.

8 p.m.: Sold-out concert by country star Clint Black at the Brown County Music Center.

Saturday, Sept. 21

9 a.m.: Boys and girls middle school cross-country Eagle Classic meet at Eagle Park, off State Road 46 West near the state park gate, across from Parkview Church of the Nazarene.

9 a.m.: Brown County sixth-grade volleyball tournament at Brown County High School.

10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Brown County Community Foundation Color Walk/Run to raise money for preschool scholarships. It starts at the Brown County Music Center’s parking lot and proceeds to the Salt Creek Trail, the sidewalks in Nashville and on Old State Road 46 to Hard Truth Hills where it ends with a concert by Clayton Anderson. Participants will be blasted at various stations with colored, cornstarch-based powder.

Starting at 11 a.m.: Uncle Pen Days Festival continues.

Noon: IU-Connecticut football game at Indiana University Bloomington. This is likely to affect traffic in Nashville starting at mid-morning and again after the crowd dismisses around 3 p.m.

4 to 9 p.m.: Quafftoberfest Rally in the Alley at Big Woods Pizza, off Van Buren Street in Molly’s Lane. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. with locally-brewed craft beer, food and live music for the 21-plus crowd. Molly’s Lane will be closed to through traffic. Big Woods Pizza will be open and welcoming all ages.

7:30 p.m.: “The American Variety Show” at the Brown County Playhouse.
