Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

Guest speakers will be Kara and Clint Hammes, who will discuss their project the Brown County Barn Burner at the former site of the Barnyard Shoppes. Once construction is complete, the Barn Burner will feature four units for short term rental, an all-ages interactive play space and a flexible-use event space. The Hammes will discuss the reason for their project and more specifics of their plan for the Brown County Barn Burner, as well as their current funding and construction timeline.

The Hammes moved to Nashville in 2016 with their daughters Ayla and Bree. They bought the property at 185 S Jefferson St. in July 2017.

Kara earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in Public Health from Indiana University Medical School. She is the health and human sciences and agriculture and natural resources educator for Purdue Extension in Brown County and a licensed real estate agent associated with Brown County Real Estate.

Clint earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He spent eight years as a manufacturing engineer with Rolls-Royce and then transitioned to the facilities and equipment engineer for Big Woods/Quaff ON!/Hard Truth.

Members of the community, especially those interested in Rotary, are invited to attend.

Literary club

The Nashville Literary Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Karen Sparks’ home. Jan Holloway will lead a discussion of “The Long Haul” by Finn Murphy.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets the third Monday of each month. The club will meet in the lower level at the Brown County Public Library on Monday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to join.

Veteran Bible study

The Brown County Veteran’s Chaplain Corps Bible Study for Veterans meets the first Thursday of each month at Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane, from 9 to 10 a.m. The next meeting will be Nov. 7. For more information, call 317-439-0207.

Cemetery preservation

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 4:15 p.m.

The society is a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group. All are welcome.

Peaceful Valley Heritage

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc., a preservation group, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at the Brown County Community Foundation building, 209 N. Van Buren St., on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
