SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves staff changes, budget

The Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following at their regular board meeting Oct. 17:

  • A $2,500 donation from Adam Clark to the Brown County High School art department.
  • A $500 donation from Indiana Farm Bureau to the BCHS choir department.
  • Owen Taylor with the Region 8 JAG program going to Washington, D.C., for the JAG National Student Leadership Academy Dec. 4 to 8. This field trip requires no funds from Brown County Schools.
  • Separating Brown County Intermediate School fifth-grade girls basketball coach Kady Lane, effective Oct. 13. This was not a termination. Erin Vonderheide was appointed to replace her, $1,023 stipend, effective Oct. 14.
  • Appointing BCHS assistant Science Olympiad coach Jim McFall, $684 stipend, effective Sept. 1. He is a replacement for Wendy Weddle.
  • Appointing BCHS Science Honor Society sponsor Shanna Carpenter, $868 stipend, effective Sept. 1. She is a replacement for Wendy Weddle.
  • Appointing BCIS sixth-grade girls basketball coach Ronna Snyder, $1,023 stipend, effective Oct. 14. She is a replacement for Ryan Oliver.
  • Appointing BCHS boys basketball assistant Daniel McMahon, $3,241 stipend, effective Oct. 17. He is a replacement for Brandon Carlson.
  • Project, bond and reimbursement resolutions related to the issuance of a $3,670,000 general obligation bond to renovate and improve HVAC systems and replace windows at Helmsburg Elementary, Sprunica Elementary and Brown County Junior High School. The money will also be used for roof improvements along with purchasing buses, equipment and technology, according to the notice to taxpayers.
  • Adoption of the 2020 Brown County Schools budget. The district’s budget for 2020 is $26,355,118.
