Celebrate, remember at Veterans Day program

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11, a day for everyone to honor and recognize the men and women who have dedicated their service to this country.

Brown County High School will honor veterans at the district’s annual Veterans Day program at the Larry C. Banks Memorial Gymnasium, 235 Schoolhouse Lane. All are welcome.

Lt. Cmdr. Michael D. Lemmons will be the guest speaker. Lemmons is the executive officer and weapons program manager at NSCW Crane.

The program will include an introduction of veterans and recognition of the widows of fallen soldiers, and a remembrance of BCHS graduate and fallen Vietnam soldier Larry C. Banks.

BCHS teacher Emily Lewellen recently completed a project called “Memorializing the Fallen,” and she will explain that experience.

A military salute will be performed by the BCHS band and junior high and high school choirs.

The local VFW also will introduce the winners of the 2019 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay contest.

The program schedule includes:

Veterans social hour, 8:30 a.m.

Doors open to the public, 9 a.m.

Students and staff assemble, 9:15 a.m.

Program begins, 9:30 a.m.

A luncheon for veterans will be provided in the auxiliary gym immediately following the program.

All veterans and their families are welcome to attend and be recognized.
