Police: Driver had convulsions before crash

A 26-year-old Nashville man was injured in a crash on State Road 46 West Nov. 27 after police say he had convulsions while driving.

Nashville Police Officer Justin Anderson was helping Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Minor direct traffic as a phone company was working to replace a power pole on 46 West between Town Hill and Green Valley roads, according to the accident report. High winds earlier that day had knocked the pole over, Anderson reported.

Around 6:30 p.m., while Anderson had westbound traffic stopped near Town Hill, he reported seeing an SUV running off the road as it was coming his way. Anderson shone a light into the vehicle and saw the driver, Gabriel Neff, having convulsions before he ran into the ditch on the right side of the road, the report said.

Anderson requested fire and EMS personnel to the scene. He was then able to open the driver’s side door to place the vehicle in park and turn it off, the report states.

Neff was unconscious and was struggling to breathe, so Anderson tried to hold his head up to make breathing easier, according to the report. EMS then arrived on scene and took Neff to Columbus Regional Hospital.

His vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Neff was wearing a lap belt only. Anderson noted that he had an injury to his abdomen and pelvis area.
