Main traffic light out in downtown Nashville

The main traffic light in downtown Nashville is out after a vehicle struck the pole that holds it, the Indiana Department of Transportation reports.

Until INDOT can replace the pole, this intersection at the corner of Main and Van Buren streets should be treated like a four-way stop, INDOT reported in a press release this afternoon. Temporary stop signs were being posted and workers were on scene this morning.

“The pole is currently being removed and further investigation of the foundation structure will be conducted,” INDOT said.

“Both drivers and pedestrians should use extra caution when traveling through the area,” as the pedestrian crossing lights also won’t be working, INDOT said.

INDOT could not give an estimate on how quickly the repair would be completed.

The Nashville Police Department is handling the crash report; the newsroom has not received it yet, so it’s unclear how the crash happened. INDOT said that the crash happened this morning; the Brown County Sheriff’s Department dispatch log shows a crash happened there around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
