Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will not meet in January. The next meeting will be Saturday, Feb. 8. Any widowed person who wants to learn about the group may call Keith Bradway at 812-597-0811 or Joanne Day at 812-597-5593.

Widowed group euchre games will take place at 1 p.m. at the community center on Tuesdays, Jan. 14 and 28.

Cemetery preservation

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 4:15 p.m. The society is a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group. All are welcome.

Peaceful Valley Heritage

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc., a preservation group, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at the Brown County Community Foundation building, 209 N. Van Buren St., on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Book club

A Novel Bunch book club meets every third Wednesday at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, at 2 p.m. in meeting room B. The next meeting is Jan. 15.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

The guest speaker will be Tina Peterson, president and CEO of both Regional Opportunity Initiatives Inc. (ROI) and the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County. In addition, she is a board member of Dimension Mill, an incubator in Bloomington, of the Indiana Innovation Institute, and of Indiana INTERNnet, a program under the auspices of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce matching employer needs with student interests to facilitate placement of students desiring internships.

Peterson will discuss ROI’s progress in advancing economic and community progress in the Indiana Uplands through a focus on education, workforce and quality of place.

Members of the community — especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to our community — are invited to attend.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets the third Monday of each month. The club will meet in the lower level at the Brown County Public Library on Monday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to join. Call the library at 812-988-2850 for more information.

Lions club

The Brown County Lions Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East, with a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be Jan. 21.

The Lions Club board meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. Anyone interested in Lions is invited to attend. The next board meeting will be Feb. 4.
