To the editor:
The white-faced, black-faced, two-faced governor of Virginia, who is not sure if he was a black civil rights leader or the grand dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, has declared all out war on the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution and gun owners in his state. He also believes in not giving life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to babies who have lived through the awful procedure of abortion. He is greatly emboldened by the Democrats having taken over the state legislature.
How can this happen in the state of Virginia — the home of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and other Virginians that helped write the Bill of Rights with the 2nd Amendment right behind the freedom of religion? Washington led the American army to the victory that severed the ties with England. They wrote a constitution that never has nor ever will be equaled as a rule to govern mankind. Now, we have a Virginian who wants to take it all away.
When I think of other great Virginians who were men of honor and character — men like the hot-blooded Patrick Henry, the fearless Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, and the dignified and gracious Robert E. Lee — I wonder, “What has happened?” General Lee put his sword in his sheath to remain unless Virginia was invaded, which it was. He fought on the principle that states which had joined the Union had the right to leave the Union if they so chose. This was the position held at West Point for many years. He lost that fight, but conducted himself and his army with the highest of honor. I even think of Randolph Scott, another Virginian, who rode the trail alone and used a gun to shoot and kill bad guys in his movies. Surely, that kind of spirit and blood still lives in Virginia.
The attorney general said they would call out the National Guard to enforce the new gun laws. Unless things have changed since I was in civics class, the governor of the state can call out the National Guard of the state, but the President can federalize them and they would be under the control of the President. So, let them call out the National Guard. As long as we have President Trump, we have nothing to worry about.
