Free concert at local church this weekend
BEAN BLOSSOM — St. David’s Episcopal Church, at state roads 135 North and 45, will host a concert on Friday, Jan. 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. as a part of the Bean Blossom Music Series.
The concert will feature Japanese pianist Futaba Niekawa, who is known throughout the United States, Canada, England, Spain, Taiwan and Japan. She is a lecturer in music (chamber and collaborative) at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

Submit work for Hoosier Women Artists contest
Women artists from Indiana are welcome to enter the 2020 Hoosier Women Artists contest, sponsored by the Indiana Arts Commission.
The theme of the 2020 competition will be a celebration of women and commemoration of the women’s suffrage centennial anniversary. Artists are encouraged to submit pieces related to this theme.
Visual arts including drawing, painting and photography are welcome to enter. The artwork is judged by a panel that includes Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Treasurer Kelly Mitchell and peer artists coordinated by the Indiana Art Commission.
Winners will have their artwork displayed in Mitchell’s and Crouch’s offices at the Statehouse for one year. Additionally, pieces of art will be selected by First Lady Janet Holcomb, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Auditor Tera Klutz, Chief Justice Loretta Rush and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick to display in their respective offices and the governor’s residence.
Submissions may be made on the Indiana Art Commission’s online application system through Friday, Jan. 31. Requirements include:
- Framed wall art only
- Maximum dimensions (including frame): 42” x 60”
- Maximum weight: 60 lbs.
- Must be installation ready, including frame and hanging wires
- One entry per artist to be considered
A reception will take place March 4 at the Statehouse to honor the selected artists.

Shared art studio space available in town
B3 Gallery has created a space for artists and the community to come together.
S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space” is on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.
S3 can provide painting and drawing easels; an alternative process darkroom; macro photography equipment; a digital projector; a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln; PCB etching equipment and tanks; leaded glass tools; metal forming and casting tools; electronics and robotics fabrication tools; various computer numerical control tools; a scroll saw; band saw; drill press; centrifuge; bench grinder/polisher; laser cutter/engraver; air compressor; vacuum pumps; and chemistry vent hood.
The organizers seek “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space.”
Donations of under-utilized equipment or specialty tools also are being accepted.
