Ray E. Albright, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, Feb. 8, 2020 at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Nashville.
Ray was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Bloomington, to his parents, the late Raymond E. and Etta M. (Souders) Albright. He attended Helmsburg High School and went on to serve as a Private First Class with the United State Army during the Korean War.
Ray retired in 2004 from E-W Mold & Tool Company in Indianapolis, where he worked as a foreman for more than 50 years. After retirement, Ray worked as a welder for Mardon Equipment in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Sprunica Baptist Church in Brown County, where he served as a trustee, deacon and the treasurer. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine and the American Legion.
Ray enjoyed crocheting and won several awards at the Brown County 4-H Fair for his afghans and tablecloths. He also enjoyed tending to his flower gardens and playing bluegrass music with his mandolin and banjo. Ray was a fan of western movies, with John Wayne being his favorite actor. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Rose (Mike) Ratzburg of Nashville; grandchildren, Mike Ratzburg and Katie (Chris) Thompson, both of Nashville; great grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Thompson; sister, Patty Albright of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 devoted years, Virginia L. (Vaught) Albright, whom he married on Aug. 19, 1950 in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2018. Ray was also preceded in death by brothers, Tommy Eugene Albright and Billy Albright.
The Rev. Danny Law will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County with military honors presented by the Brown County Honor Guard and the United States Army.
