Traffic stop for license results in drug charges

An Indianapolis woman was arrested on three Level 6 felonies and two misdemeanors after a deputy pulled her over for having a suspended license.

On Jan. 28, Deputy Austin Schonfeld stopped Christy Lynn, 39, after Officer Cody Poynter told Schonfeld about a vehicle at Circle K on State Road 46 East that was registered under a suspended owner.

According to the police report, Lynn knew that she had been pulled over due to her license, which had been suspended since 2018. Schonfeld saw that Lynn’s hands were shaking uncontrollably and were covered in dried scabs. Two male occupants in the vehicle were smoking cigarettes.

Schonfeld asked Lynn if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, which she denied. Schonfeld then asked if she had used any illegal drugs, to which Lynn said the last time she used was 45 days prior. Schonfeld retrieved K9 Kronin to inspect the vehicle.

The two other occupants denied knowing if anything illegal was in the car, according to the report.

In the woman’s jacket, Schonfeld reported finding syringes, a purse with a white crystalline substance, a cut straw with white crystalline substance, a tin cup with saturated cotton balls, two plastic baggies, a driver’s license, a ledger, scale, marijuana roach, saline tubes and loose pills in a woman’s jacket. One of the cotton balls reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

Sergeant Scott Bowling took Lynn to the Brown County jail. The two other occupants were released from the traffic stop.

At the jail, Lynn admitted to using heroin the day of the traffic stop. She was booked into the jail.
