Mary Johanna (Bunge) Renihan, 78, of Indianapolis, formerly of Martinsville, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis.
She was born Sunday, March 2, 1941 to the late Chester and Hannah (Richards) Bunge in Helmsburg, Indiana. On Oct. 4, 1957, she married her husband, Michael James Renihan who passed away May 24, 2014.
Mary Jo was actively involved in the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as membership chairperson, and First Vice President for Martinsville unit #230. She also served as the district 7 Chaplin. She represented her unit in many conferences and conventions, and tirelessly gave of her time and talents to many Legion sponsored events and charities.
She, along with husband Michael, was a charter member of the Martinsville Marine Corp League. Her ongoing commitment to patriotism, and supporting the armed forces was an example to all.
Mary Jo also belonged to the Amici Home Ec Club where she served as Secretary. One of her favorite activities was reading to preschoolers each month through the Head Start Program. She also served on the Morgan County Homemakers Council.
Faith, family, integrity and patriotism were the foundation for Mary Jo’s life. She leaves a lasting impression on all who knew her, and will be truly missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Renihan, Michelle Collins, Melinda “Mendy” Provines, Monica Tender; brother, John Bunge; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband and parents; brothers, Frank Bunge, Phillip Bunge, Kenneth Bunge; sisters, Dorothy Young and Sue Lynn Isley.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at Costin Funeral Chapel, 539 E Washington St. in Martinsville, with Pastor Mark Crull officiating. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2020 at Costin Funeral Chapel and one hour before the service Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Morgantown.
