Staff reports

A film by a Brown County native will make its south-central Indiana premiere at the Bloomington PRIDE Film Festival this weekend.

Alexander Zorn is the director and co-writer of the short film “Bird of Paradise.” He was born and raised in Nashville and earned a telecom degree from Indiana University Bloomington in 2016, then a master’s degree in directing from DePaul University.

“Bird of Paradise” tells the story of a queer geriatric nurse who “learns one of life’s hardest lessons when he falls in love with one of his elderly patients.”

“As a director, I am interested in delicately walking the fine line between right and wrong,” his director’s statement says. “… ‘Bird of Paradise’ posits that despite age and background, love can develop between anyone. Yet, rarely is everyone okay with unconventional love. … (The film) is also a direct critique of how society forces relationships for the sake of comfort.”

“Bird of Paradise” is set to start at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Kirkwood Avenue. Zorn will be in attendance.

Tickets can be purchased and the full schedule for the film festival can be viewed at https://bloomingtonpride.org/film.
