Joyce Marie Johnson, 78, of Nashville, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Feb. 27, 2020. Joyce was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on Feb. 17, 1942 to the late Garold William and Orvena Elaine (Duncan) Medsker.
Joyce married Jay Johnson on Jan. 22, 1971 in Morgantown, IN. They recently celebrated 49 years together.
Joyce worked at The Brown County Inn for many years and later she and her husband opened Red Oak Specialties in Gnaw Bone.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband Jay, her daughter Robin (husband Doug) Stevens of Nashville, IN, her five siblings; Judy, Naoma, Sam, Charlie and Calvin, one grandson; Jarod Stevens and a great- grandson; James Stevens.
She was preceded in death by her son Dale Schrougham and her brother Marshall Batton.
Joyce loved her family, enjoyed reading and loved her dogs.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Brown County Humane Society in Joyce’s name.
As Joyce requested there are no services.
Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Rd. 135 North, Nashville, IN is entrusted with arrangements.

Abigail is a Brown County native dedicated to the community in which she has been raised. She joined the Brown County Democrat newsroom in 2019 while studying English at IUPUC, where she graduated in May 2020. After working as the news advertising coordinator for nearly two years, she became reporter in September of 2021. She took over as editor in the fall of 2022.
