Charles R. “Skip” Johnson, age 88 passed away Sunday evening, March 1, 2020 at the Parkside Court Retirement Community in Columbus. Skip was a resident of Nashville.
He was born June 10, 1931 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late William C. and Thelma (Woodmancee) Johnson. Skip attended Nashville High School and went on to serve as a Corporal with the United States Army from 1952 to 1953 during the Korean War and was discharged from the Army Reserves in January of 1960.
He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus where he worked for over 30 years as a Machinist and Parts Mounter. Skip was a member of the Diesel Workers Union in Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Nashville. He was a former member of the Love Chapel Church in Columbus and Green Valley Church in Nashville. Skip’s passion was ministering and spreading the good word to family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings, Robert B. “Bob” Johnson of Greenwood, Nelson (Glenda) Johnson of Kokomo and Winifred (Gary) Cave of Peoga; and several nieces and nephews.
Skip was preceded in death by siblings, Harry Johnson, William Johnson, John M. Lazzell, John W. Lazzell, James Lazzell, Patricia Lazzell and Juanita Bolin.
The Rev. Kenneth Johnson will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Burkhart Cemetery in Brown County with Military Rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard and the United States Army.
