Police: Driver fell asleep while driving, crashed vehicle

Police say a 22-year-old Spencer man was injured on March 14 after he reportedly fell asleep while driving on State Road 46 West.

The crash was reported just before midnight on 46 West near Summers Place Trail.

The driver, Landon Jackson, told police he was driving westbound when he fell asleep. He said he woke up as he was going off the road and down an embankment, according to an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Magner.

His vehicle then sideswiped a tree before hitting another tree and coming to a rest.

Jackson said that he was OK and was checked out by EMS personnel before signing a refusal for further treatment for minor bleeding on his head, according to the report.

Jackson was able to get a ride from the scene and requested his vehicle be towed due to disabling damage, including side airbag deployment, the report states.

Nashville Police and Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

Jackson was wearing a seat belt.
