Mother’s Cupboard Soup Bowl Benefit rescheduled, kitchen to remain open

A Mother’s Cupboard guest is served through the front window of the kitchen that will serve as the service window during the COVID-19 emergency. Passing meals and groceries through the window makes it possible for guests to get served without touching any surface at Mother’s Cupboard, limiting the potential spread of disease. Submitted

Mother’s Cupboard Community Kitchen announced it is postponing its Soup Bowl Benefit from March 29 to June 21 at the Seasons Conference Center.

Tickets sold for the March date will be honored at the rescheduled event, according to a press release from Mother’s Cupboard.

The annual event is one of Mother’s Cupboard’s biggest fundraisers. The kitchen is funded by donations from individuals and endowments administered by the Brown County Community Foundation.

Mother’s Cupboard will continue to be open for business to provide carryout food for those in need during the COVID-19 outbreak. But some changes are being made to keep guests and workers safe through this emergency.

Now the kitchen will offer window service where volunteers can pass food through the front window to clients as a way to reduce physical interaction.

“And not expose guests to potentially infected surfaces in the lobby of the building,” the press release states.

The kitchen will continue to serve hot meals seven days a week from 4 to 6 p.m. with no questions asked.

Volunteers are reminded to not work if they have any symptoms of illness.

Additional volunteers will be needed to fill in for volunteers who are unable to work due to illness or because they are in the age population most likely to be seriously affected by COVID-19.
