Several galleries closed due to pandemic

  • The Brown County Art Gallery is closed until further notice. The Mabel B. Annis Student Art Competition is also canceled until next year and the entire exhibition schedule is on hold. The gallery will be setting up an online shopping opportunity and the manager will be on-site for a few hours daily to answer calls and emails.
  • The T.C. Steele State Historic Site is closed along with other state historic sites and the Indiana State Museum.
  • The Brown County Art Guild is closed until April 6. Artwork for sale will be shared through Facebook and online at bcartguildshop.com. For questions or purchases, email [email protected].
  • Hoosier Artist Gallery is closed until April 4. In the meantime, the gallery will be posting "interesting things and presentations from our artists" on its Facebook page.

Annual art auction rescheduled for May

The fifth annual Taste of Art auction has been postponed to Friday, May 8 at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. Guests can sample fine wines, beers and distilled liquors, eat hors d’oeurves, and place bids on the silent auction before the live fine art auction. Heirloom and contemporary artwork from collectible artists will be sold. The auction will be run by professional auctioneer Dennis Jackson.

Tickets are $50 in advance, $55 at the door. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brown County and proceeds will go to support scholarships and other educational needs and charitable causes in the community.

Guild to host summer art camp in June

The Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St., will hold "Exploring Creativity Youth Camp: Where Math and Art Meet" Monday through June 15 to 26 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Students ages 10 to 14 will engage the right and left sides of their brains by painting and using mixed media and collage techniques. Students will have daily drawing exercises with historical references to mask making.

The final art project will be displayed at the Brown County Playhouse Gallery on Saturday, June 27 at noon and be accompanied by a performance by the Playhouse Rising Stars, with a reception immediately following.

The teachers are Dixie Ferrer, a guild member artist and mixed media expert, and Michael Chabin, a retired virtual reality and informatics IU professor.

The cost is $150 per student. Scholarships are available. The application deadline is June 1.
