NEW BOOK: Rick Hofstetter, ‘The Athenaeum’

The late Rick Hofstetter, formerly of Brown County, has coauthored a book which is being released by Arcadia Publishing.

The book is about the Athenaeum in Indianapolis, one of the “great architectural and historic treasures of Indianapolis,” according to a press release. The building was previously known as Das Deutsche Haus and is a now recognized as a national landmark.

“The Athenaeum” is part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series of books.

Hofstetter taught law and public policy at Indiana University and was the co-owner of the Story Inn, a tourist attraction and collection of historic buildings in southern Brown County. As the president of the Athenaeum Foundation Inc. from 1991 to 1994, Hofstetter saved and restored that national landmark.

The co-author of the book is Jane Simon Ammeson, who has written and coauthored 15 books including “A Jazz Age Murder in Northwest Indiana,” “Holiday World,” “Miller Beach” and “Brown County.”

Hofstetter passed away on Oct. 1, 2019, at his girlfriend’s home in the Greenwood area.

The 128-page book will be available on April 27 in paperback for $21.99 at arcadiapublishing.com.
