Help those who help you: Server tip website started

Wait staff are usually asking what you need. Now, they could use something from you.

With many restaurants cutting back on hours or staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, two Brown County residents created a website by which servers can collect tips — donations to help them get by.

The site is tipyourserverbrowncounty.com.

Kevin McCracken and Patricia Krahnke put it together.

“Kevin had started a spreadsheet to collect information on the servers — he had seen the idea somewhere — and I thought, ‘Wow, if we had a way of being able to push it out on social media, especially with the servers and bartenders’ pictures — because most people know them by face, not by name — we might really be able to get some traction,” Krahnke said.

“I have website design skills and some comfort with social media, so I just took it on. One of the servers received $100 the first day we had it up,” which was March 30, she said.

Each day, they’re featuring a “server of the day” on Facebook.

Tips can be made by PayPal or Venmo.

Information for servers on how to be listed is included on the website.

The organizers also hope that other agencies can push this out to their customers, including Brown County visitors.

“Every little bit helps and adds up to maybe a bill being covered,” Krahnke said.

“We all have to get very creative during this time.”
