Wanda Lucille Bowden, age 87, passed peacefully on April 17, 2020 at Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana. She was born in Helmsburg, Indiana on July 2,1932 to Lawrence and Ida McCoy.
Wanda was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Nashville, Indiana. She was gifted with many talents. She was a legal secretary, worked for many years at the Eastside K-Mart and called bingo at the old Walmart.
There was nothing she couldn’t do. She played piano, accordion and banjo. She was able to complete most home repairs by herself. She even helped her father build a house. She was most known for creating doilies, quilts and lawn geese clothing and selling them at local craft shows.
She loved to care for her grandkids. Skip-bo, cocoa wheaties, sweets and cartoons were always available at Mamaw’s house. She encouraged her grandkids to play outside, create new things and often helped to feed their imaginations. She loved being a grandma more than anything and could often be found with pictures of any of her grands and great grands.
When she wasn’t crafting she was traveling or gardening. She traveled in her custom RV to visit family or to take grandkids on fishing/camping trips. She had a very green thumb. Her yard was full of beautiful flowers and often a vegetable garden from which she canned and froze vegetables. She really enjoyed spending time outside.
Wanda McCoy, married Jack Bowden on Nov. 23, 1960 at their home in Morgantown, IN. Wanda and her husband were both devout Christians. They were most recently members at Northside Christian Church. They were previously members of Nashville Christian Church, Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, Ellettsville Christian Church and Cincinnati Christian Church.
Wanda is survived by one sister Geneva Brummett of Martinsville. Her children Dennis Bowden of South Carolina, Deborah Norman of South Carolina, Wanita Sue Clark of Bloomington and Becky Bowden Kerr of Bloomington. Her grandchildren Katherine Stevens, Robert Prine Jr., Kelly Glynn, Karah Raymond, Dustin Harmon, Josh Byers, David Edwards, Jessica Brown, Jamie Hancock and many beloved great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Clarice Richardson, Ruby Clay, Dorothy Prather, Lawrence “Speedy” McCoy, husband Jack Bowden and a daughter, Marshiela Norman-Bailey.
The family would like to thank all the employees at Stonecroft Health Campus and Premier Hospice Care for the amazing care and support they provided!
There will be a small private service for immediate family this week. Wanda was loved by many, so the family plans to have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Northside Christian Church at 3993 N. Prow Road, Bloomington, Indiana 47404.
