Potential COVID case shifts meal distribution

HELMSBURG — No school meals will be handed out at Helmsburg Elementary School this Wednesday or until the results of a staff member’s COVID-19 test are received.

The district sent a message to parents this afternoon, saying that meal distribution at Helmsburg was canceled for Wednesday, May 13.

“We have a potential positive case of a staff member who is not involved in food service and has not been in any food preparation areas. Helmsburg will be closed until we know the outcome of the test,” the message said.

Families who normally picked up food at Helmsburg can go to Brown County High School or to Sprunica Elementary School to pick up meals there if they wish, said Helmsburg Principal Kelli Bruner. The pick-up hours are the same as at Helmsburg, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Starting this week at all meal distribution sites (BCHS and the outlying elementary buildings), meal pick-up is only being offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, but over those two days, a full week’s worth of free meals will be given to families of any child younger than 18.
