Jeffery L. McQueary, 66, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. McQueary was born May 19, 1953, the son of Robert and Phyllis Malan McQueary.
Jeff had many talents and was particularly skilled with his hands. He took to woodworking early in life and crafted it into a career. Over the years, his artistry included pieces such as wooden toys, bases for hand blown glass sculptures, to custom built furniture. Jeff’s other interest included serving on former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniel’s campaign and advocating for change in the mental health system. He never met a stranger and was quick to help others when needed. Jeff had a big heart, ready smile and stories of shenanigans and adventure. He was proud of his family and a loyal friend. To his longtime Brown County buddies, he was affectionately known as “Ponda or Ponderosa.”
Survivors include his sons, Robert (Alesa) McQueary of Columbus and Eric (Kendra) McQueary of Missouri; his companion of 17 years, La Nice Young of Columbus; step-son, Richard D. Ginther of Missouri; granddaughters, Kristin Placke, Kya, Avary, Kamry, Avalee, Emry and Maylee McQueary; a grandson, Travis Ginther; sisters, Janet Walsh of Florida and Jeanne (Dale) Wirthlin of Ohio; and a brother, Justin McQueary of Brown County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jason McQueary and a sister, Julie Eddins.
In keeping with the Mr. McQueary’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services are planned at this time.
