Letter: Suggestions for paving, Van Buren-area recycling

To the editor:

I saw within the past few weeks that Brown County had received another $1 million grant for road improvements. Dare I hope that Becks Grove Road will receive a few of these dollars? Please find out and let us know.

A few days after I had sent my letter to you about the horrendous condition of this particular road, I saw the county highway had actually done some ditching work. That will help a lot for the drainage problem and perhaps prevent some further cobblestoning of the road.

If I offer an incentive to the county, do you think that would be legal? If they decide to mill this old pavement off the road, I would allow them a space on our property for them to dump it, saving them a loaded trip back to Nashville each time. All they would have to do would be to stop by our house, or call me. Our number is in the phone book.

The other thing that would help enormously in this time of coronavirus lockdown would have been for the county to have emptied the dumpsters as soon as we were told we would be on lockdown and made them available to us to use, even though they might not have been able to be emptied again until the lockdown is lifted. Those of us down here in the back 40 like to start our spring housecleaning early, but now we have bags and stacks of bags left to clutter up our good intentions.

The many loyal recyclers down here could have been very successful at social distancing at the Van Buren site.

Perhaps another container could have been placed across the street by the fire station (not blocking its truck ingress and egress, of course). That tactic would have been very beneficial to us and perhaps at other sites as well. A little more thought could have gone a long, long way.
