Survey: Does Brown County need a Boys and Girls Club?

0

Two Indiana University master’s degree students have created a survey about potentially bringing a Boys and Girls Club to Brown County.

Olivia O’Connor and Katie Dluginsky, students in the Kelley School of Business, are working on the needs assessment. Their goals are to determine if families in the county would be interested in becoming board members and sending their children to the club for out-of-school care, and also if members of the community would be willing to financially support the club, since 70 percent of its support comes from local donations.

Boys and Girls Clubs provide a safe, affordable place for kids and teens during out-of-school time. They offer programs and services to youth across America and on U.S. military installations worldwide.

The annual membership fee for a club is $20 per student and includes transportation from local schools to the club sites; a healthy snack; and access to trained adult mentors and more than 60 special programs.

Children served by Boys and Girls Clubs must be between the ages of 6 and 18 years old, be able to use the restroom independently or with minimal prompting, be able to take direction and instruction, be comfortable with a group environment, able to interact and participate in programs in a manner that’s physically and emotionally safe for everyone, and not require physical intervention for any reason.

Students, parents and members of the community are welcome and encouraged to provide input.
