Blood drive to happen this week at YMCA
The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at the Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 29.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors who are 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate.
Morel mushroom sale happening this weekend
The 23rd annual Howard Hughes Memorial Morel Mushroom Sale will take place Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30 at the Brown County IGA parking lot. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Mushrooms are $60 a pound, $30 per half-pound. Prices are subject to change. The sales benefit Brown County charities.

Senior class parade happening next week
A parade featuring the Brown County High School Class of 2020 will take place Friday, June 5 at 6 p.m. in downtown Nashville. It will follow the same route as the Spring Blossom Parade normally takes, using mainly Jefferson and Van Buren streets.
The Nashville Town Council stressed that parade guests should practice social distancing, staying at least six feet apart from people with whom they do not live.
Mother’s Cupboard selling BBQ family meals
Mother’s Cupboard will host a “Chicken Picken, Rib Lickin'” fundraiser on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the building’s parking lot, 646 Memorial Drive.
A complete family meal with drive thru pick up will be available for pre-orders only. Pre-orders will be taken up to Wednesday, June 3 at 3 p.m. The cost is a freewill donation.
Gary Oliver will be the pitmaster. The meal includes 2 1/2 pounds of Butterfield smoked chicken half, 3 pounds of half-rack Kansas City-style smoked BBQ pork ribs, 2 pounds of sweet and sour baked beans, 2 pounds of southwestern pasta salad and a loaf of bread. The meal feeds five to six people.

Conservation district to host nature course
The Brown County Native Woodlands Project will host a native plant stewardship course on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District office, 802 Memorial Drive.
This six-part series is open to those looking to learn more about the benefits of conserving native plants and controlling invasive plant species.
Social distancing will be practiced; and virtual attendance also will be offered. Program enrollment costs $30 per person or $50 per household, no children younger than 13.

Lions club opens applications for grants
The Brown County Lions club is ready to receive grant applications from organizations wanting funding for special projects. Applications must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, June 30 in order to be considered.
Forms can be secured by contacting the Brown County Lions Club, P.O. Box 716, Nashville, IN 47448, or visiting the Lions Club website at e-clubhouse.org/sites/browncounty.
The grants committee will review all applications during July with allocations to be made in mid-August. Funds are limited this year and will be awarded based upon the importance of each project to the betterment of the community.
Brown County History Center cancels events
The Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., has canceled the Pioneer Women’s Gathering and Spring into Art show May 9 as well as the annual quilt show set for June 5 and 6.
The quilt raffle drawing will still take place on June 6.
The historical society also has canceled its Hands on History Summer Camp June 22 to 26.
Annual wine fair rescheduled for August
STORY — Story Inn’s annual Indiana Wine Fair has been postponed to Aug. 8. The schedule of the events will remain the same as it was planned for May 2.
A Taste of Art fundraiser moved to new date
The Rotary Club of Brown County will have its 5th Annual “A Taste of Art” on Saturday, Aug. 29 at The Seasons Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East. A large selection of contemporary and heritage art from collectable artists will be available in silent and live auctions.
Tastings, heavy hors d’oeuvres and the silent auction begin at 5 p.m. The live auction by professional auctioneer Dennis Jackson begins at 7 p.m. Sponsors of the liquid tastings include Big Woods, Hard Truth, Quaff ON! Brewing Co. and Country Heritage Winery.
All event proceeds fund scholarships, youth development activities and community projects. Tickets are $50 in advance or $55 at the door.

Local bluebird club selling nesting boxes
The Brown County Bluebird Club’s annual bluebird nest box sale has begun. Boxes are all cedar and fully assembled. One box is $15 and two boxes are $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
