HAMBLEN TWP. — An 82-year-old Brown County man died in a crash Friday night on Bean Blossom Road after he lost control of his car and hit trees.

James Bolton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, reported near the Bell Road intersection just before 6:30 p.m., according to an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell.

Police and EMS responded to the crash; the driver was reported to be unconscious. While they were en route, dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting that Bolton did not have a pulse.

Stargell reported that Bolton had multiple injuries, including a broken right ankle, broken right and left forearms, a broken back, a chest injury and massive head trauma. After EMS arrived, a medical helicopter was disregarded and Coroner Earl Piper was called.

Two witnesses driving north on Bean Blossom Road reported seeing Bolton travel at a high rate of speed, then lose control of his Honda Accord. Both witnesses stopped to help him.

Stargell wrote that Bolton hit gravel on Bell Road, causing him to lose control and hit a mailbox on Bean Blossom Road before continuing south and striking a tree, a fence and another tree head on.

Airbags deployed. Bolton had his seat belt fastened, but he was sitting on it with the shoulder strap behind him, the report states.

Police reported finding a cold, open beer can and a beer bottle in the vehicle. Test results are pending.
