YMCA summer day camp needs more kids

The Brown County YMCA still has spots open in its summer child care program. Without more participants, the program may have to be consolidated and revised, said Program Director Anna Hofstetter.

The Y is offering a Monday-Friday option as well as Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday options. The cost for the full-week sessions is $110 for ages 6 and older and $90 for ages 3 to 5. The cost for the partial-week sessions is $40 for Tuesday-Thursday (all ages 3-plus welcome) and $60 for Monday-Wednesday-Friday (all ages 3-plus welcome). Scholarships are available.

Care is being offered between June 15 and July 31. Registration started June 1 and will be open through the end of this week.

Children will be split into four distinct groups. Each group will be housed in an event tent with walls and fans on the YMCA grounds. The groups will be able to move inside in case of inclement weather.

Drop-off and pick-up times will be staggered to reduce the number of people crossing paths at the same time. Children will be able to be in the program for a maximum of seven to nine hours per day.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Program leaders are planning activities such as raising butterflies, art, science, library time, basketball, swim instruction, and field trips to places in Nashville like the police department and Town Hall.

Mother’s Cupboard benefit canceled for 2020

Mother’s Cupboard Community Kitchen annual Soup Bowl benefit will not happen in 2020 after all.

“The board of directors has decided that due to the uncertainty of what is going to happen within the next few months with the virus, we have decided to have the Soup Bowl next spring,” said Sandy Smith-Richardson.

The date of the next event will be Sunday, March 28.

“This gives everyone in our town time to recover from what has been a difficult year, not only for our community, but shop owners, restaurants and our artists as well. All these people donate their time, soup, silent auction items, etc., to making our event a success,” she wrote.

“If you have purchased a ticket for the event this year, we will be honoring those tickets at the event in March. If you misplace your ticket between now and then, text Sandy at 812-320-3530 and we will get you one, using the honor system.”
