VAN BUREN TWP. — One person sustained minor injuries on July 2 after a three-car crash on Becks Grove Road.

The crash was reported near Green Acres Road just before 6 p.m.

Randel Turpin, 69, of Nashville, told officers he was driving west on Becks Grove Road when he rounded a corner and saw a red 2005 Nissan Titan driving left of center. Turpin said the driver he first collided with, Jose Mast, 30, of Noblesville, was in his lane and forced him to swerve away.

Turpin was unable to avoid Mast’s Nissan, hitting it on the driver’s side.

Turpin said he was going about 40 MPH and after initially hitting Mast, he continued moving west, but lost control of the car. It then hit a black 2014 Chevy Cruze driving behind the Nissan.

The driver of the Chevy, 44-year-old Teresa Haiflich of Columbus, told officers that she was driving east and about to round a corner when she saw Turpin approaching at a “high rate of speed.”

Haiflich reported seeing both Mast and Turpin driving somewhat left of center and quickly braked, according to the report. However, the collision with Mast caused Turpin and Haiflich to also collide, spinning Haiflich’s car around 180 degrees.

Mast said he tried to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting Turpin. Instead, Turpin’s 1996 GM Sierra struck the driver’s side of Mast’s truck, causing him to drive off the side of the road.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

No serious injuries were reported. Turpin was treated at the scene for minor bleeding on his elbow.

All three vehicles were towed to Brown County Tire due to disabling damage.
