SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves meal price increases, staff changes

The Brown County Schools Board of Trustees approved the following on June 25:

  • Declaration of the 1996 Chevy Lumina van as salvage.
  • A service agreement with ATI for athletic training services for this school year.
  • Suspension of school board policies conflicting with waivers or extensions during the COVID-19 pandemic. This resolution was recommended by the Indiana School Boards Association, Superintendent Laura Hammack said.
  • An increase of 5 cents for student breakfasts and lunches. The total cost for a full-price student breakfast will be $1.95 and full-price student lunches will be $3.05. Meal price increases are required by the United States Department of Agriculture paid lunch equity tool.
  • An increase of 5 cents for adult lunches. The total cost will be $3.70. Meal price increases are required by the USDA paid lunch equity tool.
  • A donation from Daniel and Jean Williams to pay off the balance of school lunch debt at Sprunica Elementary School in the amount of $1,043.69.
  • A donation of $1,000 from Wagler Enterprises to assist with the elimination of school lunch debt.
  • Hiring Sue Thompson and Cheryl Wyman to work Brown County Junior High School registration July 28-29 at $10 per our.
  • Hiring students Jackson Kelp and Cameron Fox for summer technology help at $10 per hour, part-time with no benefits, not to exceed 30 hours, effective June 8.
  • Separating Brown County Schools help desk manager Jonathon Petro, effective May 29. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Brown County High School girls varsity assistant basketball coach Amanda Doss, effective June 5. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Brown County Intermediate School girls sixth-grade basketball coach Ronna Snyder, effective June 16. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCHS girls assistant soccer coach Lacey Bryant, effective June 2. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCHS junior varsity basketball coach Christopher Driver, effective May 28. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCIS boys basketball coach Justin Dodd, effective May 28. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCJHS social studies teacher Amy Oliver, effective May 26. This was not a termination. Kyle McGaha was appointed to replace her, bachelor’s degree, Level A, $38,000 per year with zero years of experience, full-time with benefits, effective Aug. 3.
  • Separating BCJHS seventh-grade girls basketball coach Kevin Roush, effective May 26. This was not a termination. Ronna Snyder was appointed to replace him, Group 7, $2,302 stipend, effective Aug. 5.
  • Separating BCHS social studies teacher John Berning, effective May 23. This was not a termination. Elyse Babb was appointed to replace him, bachelor’s degree, Level A $38,000 with zero years of experience, full-time with benefits, effective Aug. 3.
  • Separating BCJHS eighth-grade volleyball coach Jason Vaught, effective May 23. This was not a termination. Amanda Doss was appointed to replace him, Group 9, $1,598 stipend, effective Aug. 5.
  • Separating BCIS after-school supervisor Taylor Seacat, effective May 22. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Van Buren Elementary School after-school care assistant Rylee Seacat, effective May 22. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing BCS psychologist Kristi Bevis, master’s degree, Level J, $45,195.65 per year with 17 years’ experience, 7.5 hours per day, 144 days per year, full-time with benefits, effective Aug. 3. She is a replacement for Jim Nelson.
  • Appointing BCJHS eighth-grade girls basketball coach Amanda Doss, Group 7, $2,302 stipend, effective Aug. 5. She is a replacement for Emily Lewellen.
  • Appointing BCJHS cheer coach Sindy Woolems, Group 7, $2,302 stipend, effective Aug. 5. She is a replacement for Amanda Grider.
  • Appointing BCHS girls freshman basketball coach Trent Austin, Group 5, $2,606 stipend, effective Aug. 5.
  • Appointing BCHS girls varsity assistant coach Kevin Roush, Group 3, $3,228 stipend, effective Aug. 5. He is a replacement for Amanda Doss.
  • Appointing the Sprunica Elementary School extra duty schedule for 2020-2021 school year: Math Bowl coach Jessie Spurgeon; Science Bowl coach Amy Gordon; Spell Bowl coach Cynthia Baughman; master teacher Alyse Johnson; mentor teachers Brittany Dunkley and Erika East; high ability team leader Alyson Hanus; technology coach Lindsay Wheeler.
