There were no funnel cakes, no ferris wheels, no motors revving from the grandstand, but Brown County 4-H’ers still got in another year of growing, crafting and showing this summer.
The Brown County 4-H Fair took place in an entirely virtual format in July due to concerns about COVID-19. 4-H’ers took photos and videos of their projects and uploaded them to a website, where judges looked them over and awarded honors from afar. Then, videos were made of each “show” and posted to YouTube during what would have been fair week.
Fifty-three 4-H’ers made the move from in-person showing to virtual, including four Mini 4-H’ers in Grades K-2, showing a total of 158 projects. In 2018-19, Brown County had 225 4-H youth members showing 556 projects at the county fair.
Open Class and the pie contest did not happen this year due to the pandemic.
