Letter: What would you like to know from candidates?

To the editor:

The League of Women Voters of Brown County invites the public to submit questions for virtual candidate forums that are planned for contested state and local offices in the November election.

Due to coronavirus and the current need to avoid in-person meetings, these forums will be held via Zoom and recorded. The recordings will be available to voters on YouTube as well as on the League voter information web site Vote411.org.

The forums will be moderated by Michael Potts, Brown County Junior High School teacher.

Brown County candidates for contested offices that have been invited to participate in the forum include candidates for commissioner, council and school board. State candidates invited include those for state senate District 44 and for state representative District 65. Federal candidates invited include candidates for U.S. congressional representative District 9.

The League of Women Voters of Brown County is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate. The candidate forums are a valuable opportunity to hear each candidate’s positions on current issues and plans for office. Public questions play an important role in understanding these positions.

We hope that candidates will use this opportunity to help the community get to know them. Questions from the community are very important in this process. Please email questions to [email protected] Deadline to submit questions is Friday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.

As in previous in-person forums, questions will be reviewed by question-sorters and read to the candidate(s) by a moderator. The LWVBC reserves the right to review and select questions for appropriateness, and to avoid duplication.

We look forward to hearing from the community.

Sincerely,

Cathy Rountree, Voter Services Committee, League of Women Voters Brown County
