BUSINESS BRIEFS: Local winery on Indiana travel list; Big Woods opening ninth location at Purdue

Big Woods to open ninth location

LAFAYETTE — Big Woods Restaurant Group has opened its ninth location, Big Woods West Lafayette, at 516 Northwestern Ave. No. 1700. The 4,000-square-foot restaurant opened to the public Oct. 19.

This is Big Woods Restaurant Group’s first expansion into northwest Indiana, and the new restaurant is in Purdue University’s Seng-Liang Wang Hall, across the street from the Purdue Physics Building.

“Our business model has great success in college towns, and we are pleased to expand our presence to Purdue’s campus and the greater West Lafayette community,” co-founder and Executive Chairman Jeff McCabe said. “With our first opening in Tippecanoe County, we’re making the drive shorter for Big Woods enthusiasts while also hoping to attract new fans in the market.”

Big Woods West Lafayette will serve the top 10 best-selling Big Woods items including pulled pork nachos and artisan pizza. The restaurant will provide seating for approximately 150 guests. Visitors will have access to both a 21-plus bar area and family-friendly booth and table seating.

A full slate of adult beverages from Big Woods’ Brown County-based sister companies, Quaff ON! Brewing Co. and Hard Truth Distilling Co., will accompany the menu.

Companywide, Big Woods Restaurants have more than 400 employees, and the new West Lafayette restaurant is expected to increase that number by up to 80.

The eighth Big Woods restaurant also opened the week of Oct. 19, in Edinburgh at the outlet mall. That restaurant, a Big Woods Pizza, is managed by Brown County resident Jason Kirchhofer.

Winery included on Indiana travel list

GNAW BONE — Brown County Winery, 4520 State Road 46 East, has been named to Visit Indiana’s “20 IN 20” winery list.

The list creators wrote: “Nashville is known for the rolling hills at Brown County State Park, quaint shops, and an incredible dining scene. Brown County Winery fits into the community perfectly with its award-winning grape and fruit wines. There are two locations: one in the heart of the Village of Nashville and a larger one on State Road 46. The latter allows visitors to view the main production site and also walk through its small estate vineyard.”
