Fall events calendar for week of Oct. 28

Many groups are making an effort to make sure kids (and adults) can still celebrate Halloween. Here’s what’s happening this weekend:

Friendly Forest trick-or-treat this weekend

HELMSBURG — A family-friendly fundraising event is happening this weekend at the Jackson Township Fire Department, 4831 Helmsburg Road.

The Friendly Forest, for all ages, will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 30 and 31. Come in a costume to trick-or-treat in the woods and enjoy snacks and drinks at the fire station. The cost is $1 per child; adults can participate for free.

Brown County Bikes plans Pumpkin Jump

The Brown County Bikes Pumpkin Jump will take place Saturday, Oct. 31 between 1 and 3 p.m. in front of the new Brown County Bikes storefront, 185 S. Jefferson St. (the building that’s been under construction).

All ages are welcome. Bring your own bike and helmet.

Participation is free, but participants must sign a waiver the day of the event or beforehand.

Halloween events scheduled at Hard Truth

A costume contest and “haunted hike” will take place at Hard Truth Hills, 418 Old State Road 46, on Saturday, Oct. 31. The “Halloweekend Costume Contest” will start at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to sign up.

“Haunted Hike ‘N Holler” tours will be offered Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. The 30-minute hike is open to hikers 21 and older. The cost is $5 to $15.

Trunk-or-treat happening at local church

Nashville Christian Church, 160 S. Van Buren St., will host a Trunk-or-Treat from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 in their parking lot, weather permitting. All are welcome.

Drive through trick-or-treat at music center

Brown County Parks and Recreation and the Brown County YMCA will have drive through trick-or-treating at the Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Boulevard, on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. This is in place of the trick-or-treat trail that usually is set up on the Salt Creek Trail.

All are welcome. All social distancing protocols will be followed to distribute treats safely.

Those interested in volunteering can create a themed trick-or-treat station, dress in costume and provide treats. Contact the Y at 812-988-9622 or parks and rec at 812-988-5522 if interested.

Trick-or-treating still offered in Nashville

Nashville police will be outside their station providing traffic control on Artist Drive like normal during trick-or-treating this year. Trick-or-treating can take place in Nashville on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Trick-or-Treat in the Village is also happening this year from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. People are encouraged to stop by the Brown County Visitors Center on Halloween to pick up a list of participating downtown businesses. Candy will be individually wrapped per requirements by the Brown County Health Department. Nusinesses are asked to follow the Centers for Disease Control guidance for holidays, along with having a volunteer onsite to help with social distancing.

Costume contests happening downtown

The Angry Robot pop culture shop, in the Heritage Mall on Van Buren Street, will have a costume contest on Halloween. Stop in before 4 p.m. to have your photo taken and you’ll be entered for prize packages for best costumes. Winners will be notified at 5 p.m. and can come pick up their prizes between 5 and 8 p.m. Halloween night.

The Bird’s Nest Café will host a costume contest from 4 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. Photos will be taken for the Bird’s Nest Café Facebook page and viewers will vote for the most creative costume. Prizes and gift certificates will be awarded to the winner. Visitors to the Bird’s Nest are also encouraged to have their photo taken with the headless horseman in front of the garden candy trail outside.
