SWEETWATER — The Cordry-Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department rescued a man from Sweetwater Lake on Halloween after his boat overturned.

Just before 5 p.m., police and Cordry-Sweetwater Fire were dispatched to the 6500 block of Osprey Drive for a boat that was overturned in the water, an incident report by Sgt. Jimmy Green states. Dispatch reported that 51-year-old Richard Fennelly was sitting on top of the overturned boat.

Cordry-Sweetwater Fire used a rescue boat to bring Fennelly to shore. He was given a blanket to wrap up in and he was checked out by firefighters on the scene, but refused further treatment, the report said.

Fennelly told Green that he was trying to move a boat dock from one cove to another on his own because he did not want to hire someone to do it, the incident report states. He said he had just made it out of the cove when the boat capsized. Fennelly was able to call 911 himself.

Fennelly went home to change into dry clothes as police and firefighters pulled to capsized boat to shore and secured it.

A person on a kayak was able to gather loose debris from Fennelly’s boat that was still floating. The dock was tied to a tree to secure it until Fennelly could get it, the report states.
