Body found in Brown County identified

Police have identified the person whose body was found in rural Hamblen Township on Nov. 21.

Angela Weisheit, 38, of Indianapolis is the victim, the Indiana State Police reported in a press release on Nov. 25.

Weisheit was murdered, said Brown County Coroner Earl Piper. He said her exact cause of death will not be released, as the investigation is still active.

It was obvious by looking at the body that the death was not an accident or suicide, he added.

“The only reason I can’t (say how she died) is because state police feels that some of the details on the ‘how’ might hamper them from getting the case solved the way they are trying to get it done,” Piper said.

Her body was discovered by a deer hunter under a bridge near the intersection of Bell and Bean Blossom roads around noon Nov. 21. She was fully clothed, Piper said.

Sgt. Matt Ames, Indiana State Police public information officer, is asking for tips from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in that area.

He said on Nov. 25 that detectives with the Bloomington state police post had interviewed over 20 people over the past 24 hours, “trying to narrow the case down.”

He asked anyone who thinks they may have witnessed a suspicious vehicle or activity in the area on the day the body was found or the day before to contact investigators.

Master Trooper Detective Tim Cummins or First Sergeant Paul Suding can be reached at 812-332-4411.

They’re looking for “anything out of the ordinary, such as not a normal vehicle in that rural area that they may have possibly seen,” Ames said. “If you could please call us with a description of that vehicle, or if you’ve seen some suspicious activity done by some individuals located in that area that seemed out of ordinary, please call us.”

“Indiana State Police and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office strongly believe someone has information regarding this case and urge anyone with that information to come forward. If a person or persons are in fear of reporting what they know, law enforcement has the means to mitigate those concerns,” the press release states.

Tips can remain anonymous, according to the ISP press release.

Police are still investigating the question of where Weisheit was killed, Ames said.

Piper said he is leaning more toward the body being dumped in that area, but nothing is finalized.

“We have to keep the integrity of the case as tight as we can until we know we have somebody in our grip,” Piper said.
