Juanita (Wyatt) Garten, age 93, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Feb. 1, 2021 at the Brown County Health and Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Nashville and former resident of Indianapolis.

Juanita was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Tracy, Kentucky, to the late Winford and Vera Wyatt. She married Charles “Charlie” W. Garten Sr. on July 18, 1959. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2005 after 46 devoted years of marriage.

Juanita was the manager of Lindner’s Ice Cream for 7 years. She also worked for Hooks Drug Store for 21 years before retiring in 1995. Though originally from Indianapolis, they fell in love with the Brown County area and called Nashville home. Prior to building a cabin and becoming permanent residents of Brown County in 1994, Juanita was a member of the Emmaus Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering at Mother’s Cupboard for over 6 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a love for animals, especially cats and dogs.

She will be missed by her children and step-children: Donna Parman of Nashville, John (Alice) Garten of Noblesville, Charles “Odie” (Wina Roy) Garten Jr. of Nashville, and Charlene Cobb of Ocala, Florida, 26 grandchildren and other family members: David Hollaway and Joyce Silence-Trevino.

Juanita was preceded in death by her father Winford Wyatt; mother Vera Wyatt-Hill; husband Charlie; children and step-children: Sue Keys, Betty Waggoner, Judy VanSickle and Robert “Bobby” Garten; siblings: Jake, Alec and Bernard Wyatt, Pat Rigby and Clarene Silence and 2 grandchildren.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Washington Park East in Indianapolis. All guests attending visitation and/or services will be required to wear a mask at all times in an effort to promote a safe environment.
