Multiple officers were involved in a police pursuit on Feb. 16 that started in Bartholomew County and ended in the parking lot of the Brown County Public Library.

Just after 10:30 p.m., dispatch notified police here of the pursuit involving a driver, 27-year-old Brandon Kincheloe of Columbus, coming west on State Road 46 East from Bartholomew County.

Sgt. Colton Magner with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department was north of Nashville on State Road 135 North and started toward the county line on 46 East, according to an incident report. He met the pursuit at 46 East and Hoover Road and followed the units from there.

The pursuit continued past two failed tire deflation device attempts by Nashville Police Patrolman Billy Bryant and Deputy Josh Stargell, in the 3200 block of 46 East and at the intersection of Parkview Road, the incident report states. A police vehicle with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department which was closely following the suspect’s vehicle hit Stargell’s tire deflation device, the report said.

The pursuit continued west to the intersection of state roads 46 East, 46 West and 135 North in Nashville, where the vehicle turned north, according to Magner’s report.

Kincheloe turned onto Mound Street before coming to a stop at the library. Police then conducted a felony stop.

According to Magner’s report, Kincheloe would not follow commands, and the Columbus Police Department tried to use beanbag rounds to break the rear passenger door window to let a K9 unit into the vehicle. At that time, Kincheloe said he was giving up and exited the vehicle.

Kincheloe was arrested by officers with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

On Feb. 18, Kincheloe was charged in Bartholomew County with three Level 6 felonies for auto theft, resisting law enforcement and invasion of privacy. He was also charged with a Class C misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia.

According to Stargell’s incident report, police initially thought Kincheloe was driving a stolen vehicle, but it was later determined that the vehicle was not stolen, though Kincheloe did not have permission to drive it.
