Free legal aid phone clinic set for this week

Legal Aid will conduct a free legal service phone clinic on Tuesday, March 23, for low-income residents of eight Indiana counties, including Brown County.

The clinic will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Callers can expect a 10-minute phone consultation where legal professionals will answer general questions and offer legal information.

Individuals seeking consultation must register by calling Legal Aid at 812-378-0358 on March 23 between noon and 1:30 p.m. A volunteer attorney will return a call to registered individuals between 3 and 5:30 p.m.

Community closet open again

Brown County Community Closet, 284 S. Van Buren St below Subway, has reopened to the public after closing due to the pandemic.

They are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Easter egg hunt and tenderloin, fish fry set for next week

TRAFALGAR — Indiana Memorial Funeral & Cremation Care Celebrate Life Center, 3039 W. County Road 300 S. in Trafalgar, will have an Easter egg hunt and tenderloin and fish fry on Saturday, April 3.

Egg decorating will be from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with an egg hunt from noon to 2 p.m. The Easter Bunny will arrive via Huey helicopter at 11 a.m. and be available for photos with families.

The fish and tenderloin fry will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to a friend of Indiana Memorial who is fighting brain cancer.

Historical society to host general meeting next month

The Brown County Historical Society will hold its general meeting on Monday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the history center, 90 Gould St.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own dessert and drink. The program includes “Adventures of 2020” discussion.

The historical society is open Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Easter services coming up at St. Agnes

St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1008 McLary Road, will have Easter Mass and services beginning Saturday, March 27.

  • A Palm Sunday vigil Mass will be Saturday, March 27 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 28 at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m., with incense at all services.
  • Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m. with incense and Adoration following at 8:30 to 11 p.m.
  • Good Friday Service will be Friday, April 2 at 3 p.m. with incense and Station of the Cross at 5:30 p.m.
  • Holy Saturday, April 3 vigil Mass will be at 8:30 p.m. with incense, no 5 p.m. Mass.
  • Easter Sunday, April 4 Mass are at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m., with incense at 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Live online video will be broadcast at the 5 p.m. Palm Sunday service, 7 p.m. Holy Thursday, Good Friday service at 3 p.m. and Easter Sunday at 8 and 9:30 a.m.

St. Agnes strongly encourages attendees to bring their own masks to wear, use hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting the church, and practice social 6-foot distancing. Those who are 65 and over and those with high-risk health conditions are strongly encouraged to remain at home.

Recycle center planning spring cleanup day

The Brown County Recycle Center, 176 Old State Road 46, will have Spring Cleanup events on Saturday, May 1. Electronic waste disposal will be available from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. There is a $20 disposal fee for TVs or computer monitors.

From 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., free document shredding will be offered.

Local bluebird club selling nesting boxes

The Brown County Bluebird Club’s annual bluebird nest box sale is underway. Boxes are all cedar and fully assembled. One box is $15 and two boxes are $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
