Marjorie Ruth Wright, age 103 passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Marjorie was born on May 28, 1917 in Altoona, Kansas, the daughter of Gus L. and Martha Jean (Smith) Howard. She received her master’s degree in education from Butler University and taught at both Beech Grove and Wayne Township elementary schools, retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom and a charter member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and had served as a volunteer in the mental health field. She was also a member of the Brown County Retired Teachers Association and the Widow or Widowers Group.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Carla Malkiewicz, of Wingate, Texas and Charlene Jewell, of Martinsville; two step-sons, Donald Wright, Jr. and Steven Wright, both of Indianapolis, one step-daughter, Mary Messer, of Indianapolis; three grandsons, Brian McCorkle, Adrian Butler and Joel Francis Butler, three great-granddaughters, one great-grandson and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Carl L. Francis, second husband, Donald E. Wright, one step-daughter, Carolyn Burlton and two brothers, Charles R. Howard and Gus L. Howard, Jr.
A private family memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Washington Park Cemetery East in Indianapolis Burial will follow the service. A public memorial service will be held at a later date at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom.

Abigail is a Brown County native dedicated to the community in which she has been raised. She joined the Brown County Democrat newsroom in 2019 while studying English at IUPUC, where she graduated in May 2020.
