Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet over Zoom at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 8.

The guest speaker will be Anita Tiemeyer, author, musician and culinary artist. She will discuss her research into the Holocaust and how the Holocaust relates to current events in the United States.

Tiemeyer has researched the Holocaust extensively, studying the literature and interviewing historians and liberators and survivors of Buchenwald. Her first published work, “A Brother for Sorrows,” is a historical novel set in Bloomington that follows the life of a man liberated from Buchenwald at the end of WWII. It is the fourth of six books stemming from a story she began developing in junior high school. The first book in the series, “The Guardians’ Son,” will be released in late May or early June. A writer since elementary school, she has also written short stories. Her book and short stories are available in print or eBook on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

A native of Columbus, Tiemeyer earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and history at Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in music, oboe performance, from Butler University. She served in the United States Air Force for eight years as a member of the 539th Air Force Band of the West. She has maintained a music studio, Private Woodwinds Studio, for 35 years, teaching woodwind and piano. She also bakes artisanal cakes and cookies for her Cakes Plus More business.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to our community, are invited to attend the remote session. Visit RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and click on the “Contact us” URL to obtain a link to the Zoom meeting.
